About Us

Springfield Parks and Recreation is responsible for the management and maintenance of our city’s parks, trails, and recreational amenities. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for Springfield residents by providing access to safe, clean, and enjoyable outdoor spaces.

Our Parks and Facilities

1. Parks: Explore our beautiful city parks, featuring playgrounds, picnic areas, sports fields, and scenic walking trails. Whether you’re looking to relax, play, or exercise, our parks offer something for everyone to enjoy.

College Memorial Park: Home to our community swimming pool, formally West Side Park.

2. Springfield Community Swimming Pool: In the late 1960’s a group of local residents formed Springfield Swimming Pool, Inc. with the goal of building a new, modern swimming pool for the community to enjoy. On July 2nd in 1971 that goal was met when the swimming pool was turned over to the City of Springfield and formally opened. Click here to learn more.

3. Sports Fields: Take advantage of our sports fields and facilities, including baseball diamonds, soccer fields, and tennis courts, for organized sports leagues and recreational play.

4. Community Events: Join us for community events and programs, such as outdoor concerts, family fun days, and nature hikes, designed to bring people together and celebrate the spirit of community. To rent the Springfield Community Service Center for an event get the application here.

5. Springfield Recreation Area: Springfield Recreation Area is nestled along the shore with breathtaking views of the Missouri River. Adjacent to the park overlooking the river is a beautiful nine-hole golf course, and a bike trail connects the park to the town of Springfield.This state recreation area features 20 campsites, two cabins, a fishing dock, a boat ramp, a picnic shelter, and a playground​ (SouthDakota.com)​​ (Travel South Dakota)​.

Fees:

  • Daily vehicle fee: $8
  • Annual vehicle pass: $36 for the first vehicle, $18 for the second vehicle, and $80 for a transferable license
  • Camping fees: $23 per night for electrical campsites, $19 per night for non-electrical sites, and $55 per night for cabins​ (SouthDakota.com)​.
